blink zyglo

blink zyglo
A nondestructive dye-penetrant inspection technique to confirm the presence of cracks in materials that are subject to vibrations. The surface of the part is coated with a penetrant in which a visible, or fluorescent, dye is dissolved or suspended for an appropriate length of time and then rinsed until all the penetrant is cleaned off the surface. The part is then placed in a fixture that vibrates and is observed under ultraviolet light. If the vibration opens up a crack that has accepted some of the penetrant, the crack will show up as a glow in blacklight. Also called wing zyglo, zyglo, or dye penetrant inspection.
